Question: How does someone see themself as a learner and how does that affect the way they learn?
Purpose: The purpose of my question is to develop an oral history instrument that can allow for my interviewee to open up about the way they learned to read and write.
Ultimately, my plan is talk to the person about the various ways they learned to read and write. I will also get input from them about what type of learner they believe they are. I will see if the way they believe they learned best affected the way they learned to read and write. I will ask my interviewee about literacy learning events. I will ask them what they remember and also if they remember hearing stories from their family.
What I will be doing with my interviewee is basically having a "life story interview" with them. I will talk about their different life periods such as kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, highschool, and college. I could also talk to the person about if they believe their learning style has stayed the same throughout the years or changed.
I believe this question is extremely relevant to me as a future teacher. When I am teaching, I will need to be familiar with the different learning styles that students have and the different ways that students believe they learn best. Hopefully, by creating a good oral history instrument, I will be able to get an accurate life story from my interviewee.
